History Day was conceived in 1973 by members of the Department of History at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, as an effort to revive interest in history by allowing students in grades six to twelve to actively participate in historical research. Students prepare individual or group papers, projects, performances and media presentations, responding to an overall theme chosen for that year.
